Are allergies causing my sinus problems.

Hi all,

I have been posing in the sinus Problems board for some time now looking for a solution to the problems I have been experiencing.

I have suffered from sinus problems since a very young age. I have recently had surgery on my sinuses in the hope that it might help. (it hasn't so far) although it has only been 6 weeks, it has gone back to normal as I was before the operation.

My vision is still the main problem that continues to be affected - continuous eye infections, blurred vision with floating black spots, brain fog and very sensitive to natural daylight although I am fine with artificial bright light. I believe this to be due to the pressure from my sinuses but could be something else? i am also still having problems with my balance and my ears still have that full feeling.

I have recently been pestering my ENT department to do something about it. They finally agreed to do a CT scan last Thursday. Now I am waiting to hear the results from that when I see my surgeon next Friday.

I clear my nose out everyday using a netipot with saltwater - this generally gives me a very clean feeling with a very clear and clean nose I can also feel the sinus open up and release the water when i put my head down - Although the pressure still remains - nothing seems to change it.

I'm wondering if this is triggered by an allergic reaction? I have been tested and was told I am allergic to household dust mites - I take all the precautions for this and have also tried lots of different antihistamines with no change to the way my head feels whatsoever.

I also have had food intolerance testing which came back as moderately intolerant to everything! That wasn't much help! I do eat well avoiding the foods that cause inflammatory.

Blood tests generally find some sort of inflammatory so i guess this could be allergy triggered?

Has anyone had any similar symptoms to mine? It seems you have to have a blocked nose to have sinus problems?

Anything else worth trying? I'm starting to think it could be something other than my sinuses?

Many Thanks in advance
Dave.

Re: Are allergies causing my sinus problems.

Allergies can definitely cause or contribute to chronic sinus problems. If nasal rinsing and antihistamines aren't resolving the problem:

1) Try a steroid or antihistamine nasal spray

2) Consider allergy shots. They take 6-12 months to start working, but once they do, the effects are dramatic.
