So I have allergies to milk, soy, nuts, sunflower, shrimp, codifsh, corn, peas, green beans, and yeast. I don't know what to eat! With soy and sunflower, I don't get a severe reaction, but I get very congested, so I try to avoid those. But soy and sunflower are in literally everything! I end up eating them, sometimes without even knowing. And eating out is pretty much out of the question.
Does anyone else have an allergy to soy and sunflower? And if so, what do you eat? I'm having trouble changing my diet.
Also, my acne has been acting up, anyone know if it can be from allergens?
Really, it's all about label reading. Soy is in all kinds of things, and sunflower oil often hides down at the bottom of an ingredient list. Unfortunately, your safest bet is to go with plain natural foods, like veggies and meat, and cook them yourself. With that many allergies, it's tough to find packaged food that works, and going out to eat would also be difficult.
Bread is out, I suppose, but you can buy flour and make things like pancakes or baking powder bread.
Also, soy is in a lot of skin care and cosmetic products, so you might need to be careful of those, as well.
I am also allergic to sunflower, soy, nuts and shellfish, (as well as raw carrots, avocado, kiwi and possibly sesame.) My advice for you is to avoid processed foods as much as you can, because as you've probably noticed, almost all snack food contains sunflower oil, (or it has that incredibly annoying "contains either canola oil OR sunflower oil" designation.) I've been safe with this one brand of popcorn I've seen at whole foods... I forget what brand it is but it says, "Popcorn, Indiana" at the top and it's in a bright red bag. I'm pretty sure they just use canola oil, but I would double check that to be sure.
I'm sorry to hear about your milk allergy... how allergic are you to milk products? If it's severe, I'd say avoid the popcorn I just mentioned as most flavors have either butter or cheese in them.
I know cooking at home can be a pain, but there are some things that can be relatively quick and easy... tonight I had chicken, rice and spinach, which was a little bland but it was good with a little salt and pepper (and butter). A few nights ago, my fiancé made these delicious sweet potato fries which I think you could eat as well... he just cut up the sweet potatoes lengthwise and cooked them in canola oil. All he added was salt, but they were delicious! (and healthier than processed snacks, too.) I recommend trying that.
