Grass allergies and chest congestion

Every time the grass pollen count gets up over 5 I get chest congestion and cough. It has been a problem for a few years. I also have asthma and sinusitis.
I take several meds, pseudoephedrine, fexophenadine, symicort, flunisolide and spiriva, but I still get the congestion.

Is there anything else I can do?

Thanks in advance.

HAve you tried allergy injections? Do you use a saline rinse to clear the sinus congestion that becomes post nasal drip?

Re: Grass allergies and chest congestion

Allergy shots are my next shot. I have heard that sometimes they are not all that effective.

I use a saline nasal spray several times a day.

Thanks for your response.

Re: Grass allergies and chest congestion

I've found immunotherapy extremely helpful for my grass allergies.

Re: Grass allergies and chest congestion

Thanks. My daughter is doing the therapy now and hasn't had much success yet, but understand it can take a while.

Thanks again

Re: Grass allergies and chest congestion

I'm on my second go-round with immunotherapy as an adult. I've found that I see progress with some allergens faster than others. In general, I'd say it is closer to a year before I see significant difference with my seasonal allergies. If you have grass allergies, starting shots now should help you for next year.

I also found allergy shots were very helpful. It took right about 12 months before I noticed any improvement, and now 2 years in my allergies have improved dramatically. I still have them, but the impact on my life is much much smaller.

Re: Grass allergies and chest congestion

Thanks all of you. I've decided to give it a try.

In the interim can I increase my fexophenadine and pseudophed?

I'm taking 180 mg of fex. And 240 of pseudo daily. I've asked my dr the same thing but he hasnt got back to me.

Thanks again

I have increased my use of saline nasal spray and it really has helped! I also drink more hot tea.

Thanks again for this simple solution.
