When I look up "allergy to sunflower seed symptoms" I can't seem to find ones that match mine exactly. If I eat them, I have severe itching in my inner ear, and I feel like I need to keep clearing my throat. My esophagus and throat itch too. When this first happened 30 years ago I learned to simply avoid them. But now, once in a while, I'll eat something they may be hidden in. Like a multi-grain bread or broccoli salad. Once I had a reaction in a restaurant and I knew I was not eating them....I was eating Craisins on a salad....turns out the chef told me sunflower seeds are in the tray next to the Craisins in the kitchen. Guilty by association!

Last week it was a muffin with hidden sunflower seeds -- two bites and I knew they were there. This time the usual symptoms occured, but I also got very itchy palms and the bottom of my feet itched bad. I have never-- believe it or not -- tried Benedryl during a reaction. Either I didn't have any on hand or was at work/driving and couldn't afford to get super sleepy. Anyone know if the B takes the symptoms away?
