Muscle tension allergies?

Has anyone here gotten muscle tension from pollen allergies? I'm trying to figure out where/ why I get my tense muscles from. Mainly my neck and shoulders and jaw tension ( not pain just tense). I noticed when on benadryl it dumbs down a lot or goes away. Now I'm on reactine seems like a weaker drug, like claritin.I never ever had this before so I'm confused .it went away for a few days almost two weeks but I forgot to take my reactine once yesterday and tada came back hitting hard! The singulair and steroid nasal spray finally!! Cleared up the post nasal drip. But this pressure infront of ears and going down wards and my neck is ******* me off!! Worse on hot humid days. Thought it was tmj but specialist said it wasn't. I'm not convinced yet, god I hate 2012 since march 3rd when all this started. Watch this all eventually be something major! I'd be the only one who gets a come and go cancer that kills me. Well sorry for the rant I'm just tired and angry I want to feel normal again

Did you ever to stop to think that you are very tense from frustration alone, and, believe me, allergies can be EXTREMELY frustrating. I speak from experience. Allergies can also cause pressure all though the head. Go to your nearest pharmacy and buy a rinse-I think the name of it is Nell or Neil and it comes with stuff to put in the bottle. Do NOT use plain salt as that will injure the membranes of your nose. There is a Dr. Grossnan, who is an ear/nose and throat man, who is on the Internet and he sells the packages you can put in a bottle. My allergies fogged up my thinking, threw me off balance and plugged up my ears. Once I started using the rinses twice a day, I saw great improvement. Oh, I only use 1/2 the Grossman pack on one side of the nose and the other half on the other, mixed with water. By the way, I have had tension all through my shoulders as you. This is one of the worst allergy seasons in history and many are complaining, even my husband, who is built like a Mak truck. Good luck.

It's NeilMed Sinus Rinse. Works wonders for many people. If you don't like water in your nose though, it can be a challenge.

Re: Muscle tension allergies?

I'm using it to rinse my nose. Have ether of you had neck stiffness or upper back muscle knots from allergies?

Re: Muscle tension allergies?

As I wrote you, yes, I have and it is all due to tension. If I were you, I would go get a massage, if you can, and not worry about it. Everyone gets tense, but when my health is not up to par, which is never is with allergies, I find I am loaded with knots. If one is tense in the upper back, it can easily spread to the neck.

Re: Muscle tension allergies?

I get horrible neck/shoulder pain when my allergies are acting up. Someone suggested that there are places that the sinus can drain behind the ears - which would cause the back of the head pain going down into my neck. For the past week, I've had terrible left-sided neck pain and my left ear feels full as well - along with the usual facial pain; headache, and sinus pain. I just finished an antibiotic a few weeks ago but I feel terrible.
I'm currently taking Flonase, allegra, sudafed, mucinex, saline spray, Vit C - not sure what else I can do at this point. I'm tired too and really tired of feeling so miserable.

Re: Muscle tension allergies?

I know that feeling of being tired of feeling like that.I'm still not convinced it's allergies since never in 36 yrs have I felt this badly and oddly. One day i'll have a post nasal drip the next it feels like my head will explode, the next day none of the above but my body aches and upper back, neck sometimes jaw are tense. I even get anxiety attacks which frankly make no sense!! It's simply beyond the point of stupid now. Doctors and specialists don't even seem concerned?? Idiots.... Last night I woke up every hour because my heart was beating way too fast.
