could this be from some kind of allergy?

I looked at the categories and didn't really know where to make a post. About 16 years ago I began having bouts of uncomfortable symptoms that go together. I get a metallic taste that sometimes turns bitter or salty. My face flushes almost like rosacea. Sometimes my scalp would burn badly. Sometimes my tongue would look slightly swollen and darker than its normal color. I get tingling on my cheeks that makes it feel like the tiny hairs there are standing on end and around my mouth will feel stiff. On top of all that (literally) my hair falls out more than is normal.

AFter I was diagnosed with low iron and started taking supplements, and also started taking Glucophage for insulin resistance, I had some improvement. Same symptoms but not as severe.

Lately, though, the taste thing has flared up often, the tingling, flushing is worse.
I have often thought I must be having an allergic reaction. If I use a topical medication or a multivitamin it nearly always brings on the metallic taste.

But could it be a food? And it is possible to pinpoint which food with testing?

I saw 30 specialists over a ten year span and nobody knew a thing except the one who discovered I had low iron. My family doctor doesnt have a clue. And since I am simply uncomfortable, not sick, it is hard to find anyone who really cares. In fact, a few made rude responses to my problems, whether they knew it or not.

If anyone has an idea, I would be most grateful if you will share.

p.s. my ears ring (tinnitus) Char

You may want to check out celiac disease or gluten intolerence. Not to say this is what I believe you may have but it certainly seems like allergies of some sort

Re: could this be from some kind of allergy?

The face flushing and tongue swelling are almost certain signs of food allergy/intolerance. Do you notice a pattern of eating certain things when this happens to you? I would ask your GP to refer you for allergy testing to see if you are allergic to any foods. Try to notice if a certain food is making you react this way. I dont believe the metallic taste is a symptom of allergic reaction but will be connected to your iron deficiency. People with low iron/anemia often get a metallic taste in their mouth and they also get tinnitus which you have described. So these indeed are attributed to your low iron. You can also get a sore tongue from an iron deficiency aswell as some hair loss. Most of what you have described are attributed to your iron deficiency but I believe it would be best to tell your GP so he can rule out any allergies to food or even the medications/supplements you have started taking. Hope i've been some help!
