Could my chronic urticaria be lupus?
Hi all, I was diagnosed with chronic idiopathic urticaria about a month ago after 8 weeks of terrible itching, weight loss, hives, angioedema, and extreme discomfort. I had skin testing and blood tests done to rule out thyroid issues and mastocytosis. I am taking a daily combination of levocetirizine, zyrtec, vistaril, and prednisone which has not relieved my symptoms. Lately (past 2 or 3 weeks) I have been getting red blotches around my eyes when I wake up and occasionally having a red rash on my face. The rash on my face is not prominent, but it is definitely new and noticeable to me. I also get these lumps on my feet that are sore and painful that come out of nowhere. They stay for a bout a day or 2 and then go away. I can't take NSAIDs because it will worsen my urticaria and Tylenol does nothing. Sometimes it is accompanied by joint pain in ankles. I'll also have red splotches all over my body that come out of nowhere that are not itchy or painful and they come and go whenever they want.
I have an appointment with a different allergist/immunologist next week for a second opinion but I am starting to wonder if I should see a rheumatologist. I am worried it may be lupus. I had routine blood work done a few months ago due to an onset of extreme fatigue and I was found to be vitamin B12 and D deficient. I am taking supplements but still feel fatigued. They have not run an ESR or ANA test on me but I almost feel silly seeing a rheumatologist because I feel like they will think it's all in my head like my primary doctor, friends, and family do. I know something is not right. Has anyone had anything similar happen to them with chronic urticaria and lupus? If so, do you recommend I see a rheumatologist instead of getting a second opinion with an allergist? If I do see one, what questions should I ask and what things should I make sure they test for?
