Am I suffering from Allergies or something else?
I have been to an allergist and tested positive to some allergens. I know I'm allergic to mold, dust and pollen. HOWEVER, my symptoms are not that bad. For one, I don't have traditional symptoms of airborne allergies: a runny nose, PND, coughing, and even sneezing (at most 5-10 sneezes a day). I only have ONE major symptom that is more annoying than problematic, and that annoyance is nasal congestion via ONLY inflamed/enlarged turbinates (no polyps, sinusitis, etc... verified by ENT).
My allergist told me that I may be suffering from congestion due to my allergies, but we have already tried almost every thinkable intervention (incl antihistamines, decongestant sprays, elimination of allergen sources, etc...) EXCEPT for allergy shots. Because nothing has worked so far to treat my enlarged turbinates from an AIRBORNE ALLERGY PERSPECTIVE, I have a suspicion that it my symptoms may be due to something else, such as naturally enlarged turbinates/sensitivity to foods/genetics/etc... I also don't want to do allergy shots for 6 months on the premise that it may or may not work.
Again, my symptoms are only congestion (usually one nostril is almost completely clogged and the other is okay). It's not destroying my life, but it's simply annoying to me. I also don't know whether this is normal. I heard some people say it's the nasal cycle, BUT I also know that some people don't have to deal with this and can breathe through both nostrils just fine.
Has anyone been through this or can give me advice?
