Anyone out there with this problem in their nose?

Does anyone else have crusting and scabs in the nose? Have had 3 different diagnosis from 3 different ENTs and do not know what to do.

Also, the last one told me to use Vaseline in my nose and the 1st two said not to and I have read it can cause pneumonia. He also said I could have a fatal autoimmune disease.

I am taking allergy shots for mold, trees, and grass as the 2nd ENT sent me to an allergist and said that may help. So far no help and nose seems to be worse.

Need help.

Thanks

Mine told me to use vaseline. That's what I do. Ayr also makes a gel that is for the inside of your nose if you prefer to try it.

Re: Anyone out there with this problem in their nose?

Titchou - Thanks for your reply. I was just a little afraid as they did a culture last year and I did test positive for staph so wondered if I put vaseline in since it is so occlusive it may keep the staph in the sores and I didn't want to get a staph infection.

Did your doctor mention that those symptoms of chronic rhinitis and crusting/scabs in nostrils are symptoms of Wegener's Granulomatosis, an autoimmune vascular disease that left untreated starts in the nose and works its way down to the kidneys and you die of kidney failure. This new ENT scared the heck out of me for sure when I went home and looked it up. Waiting for blood results and then on to biopsy.

Apparently, doctors do not think of that until it is well along and other organs are involved.

Re: Anyone out there with this problem in their nose?

I do have allergies and chronic rhinitis. I'm almost 67 and have been going to allergy docs since I was 11 years old. I've also done allergies shots - 5 year regimens - 3 times. So, yes, I'm well versed in this. When you get clogged up and take meds that dry you out, have problems with the heat being on, etc, you are going to get dried out nostrils and then scabs. It just happens. Try the Ayr gel if vaseline causes you to be concerned. And also do a sinus rinse even AM and PM. All this will keep your nostrils moist and reduce the risk for the scabbing.
