I have recently been diagnosed with Vasomotor Rhinitis, it took a few years but it seems that I don't fit the profile for anything else so Vasomotor Rhinitis it is! After doing much research there doesn't seem to be a real cause (that I can identify anyway) or even a "cure".
I am tired of just treating the symptoms with sprays that really don't work for me. I believe I have tried almost every nasal spray they will prescribe and the only one that might do anything at all is the Atrovent...however I am one of the 1-5% who has extreme side effects to this. The side effects actually make using the spray unbearable. The Vasomotor Rhinitis is really starting to impact my quality of life...I'm a fairly athletic person but I cannot do a lot of the activities I normally enjoy because of the mucus/discharge and ability to breath/swallow.
I guess what I'm curious to know is if anyone has seen a naturopath or tried any alternative medicine or methods with any luck? I'm definitely willing to try acupuncture or absolutely anything that might help my situation......

I have had it for years and it is a stinker to live with! I know some allergists say the injections do not help, but I could not disagree more with them because many times vasomotor rhinitis walks hand in had with allergic rhinitis. Have you tried rinsing your nose with anything because that does help, but be careful because you can injure the membranes in your nose, if the proper solution is not used. Try looking up Neil or Niel rinse.
Thanks for the reply. Yes I've tried various rinses but still no relief. It would be great it there was an actual cure instead of just temporary relief.
Well, there isn't a permanent cure for allergies so I wouldn't hold out for one for non allergic rhinitis. Allergy shots help but for most people, the effects are not permanent. I've had the 55 year regimen 3 times in my life. They only seem to work for about 10-15 years on me.
I stopped early 2009 and I had a very bad spring and summer.
The next year though my symptoms were so bad that I called my doctor on July and ask him to return from his vacation to treat me, which of course he didn't. Then on Sep 2010 we did another test, that showed that my grass allergy remained very strong, all others have gone for good. So he put me again on shots but not for general wild weeds this time, but he broke down the weeds and put me on 4 different ones.
I confirm that allergy shots are working. They don't make you immune but they ease your symptoms to be bearable.
To explain how helpful the shots are, think this: I am Greek and we are in the middle of a huge crisis, all doctors are instructed to cut down expenses to half and the instruction from national health organization is not to continue the shots for more than 5 years (as the insurance is actually public health and I pay only the 25% the other 75% is paid by the state). However since I was remaining 100% allergic in the wild grasses they put me again for my 10th year on shots that cost around 500 euro per year.
