Question on Kava Kava/St. Johns Wort combo - Alternative Medicine Message Board

I just began taking a Kava Kava/St. John's Wort combo for anxiety. I am having a "dulling" effect from it. The feeling is similiar to the "blah/dulling effect" given by traditional anti-depressant drugs. Do you think it would help to maybe just take the Kava Kava by itself?

You can try it, but don't plan on driving
while taking it. St. John's is more for getting you back to well being from a depression.
I use a Solaray product on my wife called St.John's wort special formula,
it runs around $30.00 in the health food stores, and about $18.00 online. It contains the following: St. John's, Kava, L-Tyrosine,
DL-Phenylalaine and Ginko.

Hi rainbowlight, kava kava does have muscle relaxing properties, as well as antispasmodic, hypnotic, sedative, analgesic effects. In its home area, it presents a problem similar to that of marijuana in this country..the younger generation likes it as a recreational substance. I haven't tried kava myself, but this implies to me that there may also be a slightly stimulating effect, too? Is this so?

You MAY find a better effect using a combo of St Johns, valerian and siberian ginseng, since the combo you're using isn't working for you.
