Has anyone ever heard of Paw-Paw? I understand it is susposed to help get rid of cancer.

Purdue University researcher Jerry McLaughlin, working with doctoral student Nicholas Oberlies, has found compounds in the bark of the tree that have shown preliminary success in fighting some drug-resistant cancers.

The studies, published in two separate journal articles this summer, show that the pawpaw compounds not only are effective in killing tumors that have proven resistant to anti-cancer agents, but also seem to have a special affinity for such resistant cells. The findings were detailed in the journal Cancer Letters and the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry.

I looked it up on the WEB and there is a plant native to the eastern United States that is know as the PawPaw. The same source stated that the papaya is known as the pawpaw in Australia.

Yes, we call it paw paw in Australia. I love it and buy it nearly on a weekly basis. It's nice to eat on its own, in a fruit salad or i mix it with natural yogurt. It has a unique smell and my husband wont touch it, but i love it. I think it's mostly grown in warmer tropical type locations. I don't know of it preventing cancer, but i have heard that pretty much all red/orange coloured fruits and vegetables have good cancer fighting properties.
