The acidophilus your friend suggested is an excellent idea AFTER you finish your run of anti-biotics. Even better would be a combination bifidus, thermophilus, acidophilus, and other LIVE cultures, easily found in live culture PLAIN yogurt (the sweetened kind will FEED undesirable bacteria).
The purpose of introducing these cultures AFTER anti-biotics is simple. As the anti-biotics work at killing the intended bacteria
i.e. in your throat, they ALSO kill off all the bacteria in your intestines. Partly, this is a real good thing, as it kills the nasties (like yeast
) that are present in your (all of our) intestines. The live cultures you introduce after the anti-biotics restore the NECESSARY bacteria
you REQUIRE to appropriately process what you consume.
If you introduce with sugar-laden cultures (like ALL fruit/or sweetened yogurt), then the bad bacterias have a marvelous environment to grow
, and since it's so clean in there, over grow, and potentially squeeze out the good guys
.
As for the l-lysine, I'm not sure about the intention there. It is an amino acid and as such, works more synergistically if combined with other amino acids
