gingko possible interactions - Alternative Medicine Message Board

My mother has diastolic(the lowest)blood pressure ,she takes a drug called Aprovel and wants to take gingko biloba as well.Does anybody know whether gingko might interact with anti-hypertension drugs (such as the brand names Avapro,Aprovel,and Karvea)?
The only warnings I could find is that Ginkgo may interfere with anti-clotting drugs such as Coumadin ,blood-thinners such as aspirin,
and with antidepressants called MAO inhibitors .

Sorry ,the spelling of the herb seems to be ginkgo...

Ginkgo biloba increases vasodilatation and blood flow rate. It eases angina.

Some Cautions are:
* Only a very small number of minor temporary adverse effects have been reported, mainly gastric disturbances.
* Overdose can cause diarrhea, nausea, irritability, headaches.
* Ginkgo seeds may cause skin disorders or mucous membrane irritation.
* Do not take ginkgo if you are taking anticoagulants.

It wold be wise to check with a medical doctor for adverse effects. The web has alot of medical advice for drug interaction.

Human Spirit....

I have my son taking it about 3x/day. He has ADD and LD. We recently decide to take him off his meds. as he was still failing school, and he was in some sort of "zombie" fog. He looked sickly, lost about 15 lbs. in a 3 wk. period. We made the decision to do this permantly and find other alternatives.

After taking this for about 1 week he recieved a "c" on his test. It sure lifted his spirits. He was totally depressed and frustrated up until today. Do you think this really had an impact or was it just luck? I have no prior experience with this.

Any ideas for us?
