Post flax/fish oil

I've been gathering information about essential oils as treatment for adhd. I would like to know the difference between flax seed oil and fish oil. Do they have the same effect? What would be the dosage for 90#'s. Do both have the omega 3? Please tell anything that would help me.

I read that flax seed oil is dangerous, based on some studies with cancer research. I can't say it is dangerous, but that is what I read a while back. However, natural flax seeds, is supposed to be a good cancer preventative food.

I haven't read about this in some time, so you might want to research a bit more yourself. I think flax is wonderful - I consume this natural food with my cereals all the time.

I have read in a number of places that fish oil is far superior to flax oil for the omega-3s because the body assimilates the omegas much better. Even Dean Ornish, who advocates vegetarianism, recommends fish over flax.

In your research have you run into recommendations to cut back on wheat? That might be helpful, too.

The Omega 3 available from an animal product
(fish oil) is better utilized by the human body.
The vegetable source takes more and longer to assimilate and kick in. Also, Fish Oil is known to actually have therapudic effect on the brain and brain disorders such as depression and bi-polar dysfunction.
With Flax, the reality of it's effectiveness depends on how the seed is processed.
I think Flax as some similar problems as Red Clover which makes both plants vulnerable to plant fungus that can cause huge problems.
There's a lot of positive feed back on Flax and it's benefits but I just say no to Flax myself. Fish oil or real Salmon at least once or twice a week is my personal preference.
I would think the brain benefits from Fish Oil would be the key in why one might use a Fish Oil for ADD/ADHD. Additionally, being an animal byproduct there is a good amount of useable vitamin B 12 which is essential in the human digestive needs and nerve function. Vitamin B12 is hard to keep in good supply in a diet that is mostly vegetarian because it's mostly animal products that have the rich supply needed for proper body function.
B 12 is a very important vitamin. Having a B 12 deficiency can cause real neurological problems.
If you choose a B-12 suppliment you would need a sublingual or liquid dose that absorbs through the mouth because the stomach acids will probably eat available B12 (that comes in pill form) before it has a chance to enter the body system.
Fortified breakfast foods also have a good useable amount of B12.
