Natural treatment for enlarged tonsils???

My 5yr old daughter has very large tonsils and adenoids, but hardly ever gets sick. The doctor wants to remove them, but, the way I figure, if Mother Nature gives you a body part, it's there for a reason. My tonsils were huge when I was a kid but I guess I just out-grew the problem (I have read about this happening to others as well). Is there a natural way to get her tonsils to shrink up? They really are big - I'm worried that they might block her breathing passage (if I can't find a natural way to deal with this, I have an appointment to have them removed June 1st).
