anyone feel better after removing "silver" dental fillings?
I just got back from the dentist and found out I need four fillings replaced because they are old and falling apart. Since I have to get them fixed anyway, I am getting resin fillings. But will it really make a difference in my health like all those websites say? HAs anyone had experience with this?
Re: anyone feel better after removing "silver" dental fillings?
Sneezydiva,
Have you been having any health problems or symptoms?
I never had any cavities until 2002. In 2002, I had three silver fillings put in. I didn't know anything at all back then about the possible dangers of silver fillings, with materials like Mercury being in them. In November of 2003, I started having symptoms of very severe fatigue/exhaustion 24 hours a day, and also major short-term memory loss. I still have these symptoms today and have been trying to find out what the cause of it is.
I've thought about getting my three silver fillings removed and replaced with white composite fillings. The things stopping me are that I'm not sure if getting the silver fillings replaced will help my symptoms at all. Also, it's important to get the procedure doen by a dentist who knows how to safely remove the silver fillings. And, I would most likely have to pay for the whole procedure out of pocket. Some people say that the silver fillings are completely safe. Other people say that the Mercury can cause symptoms if a person has several silver fillings. Then there are people that say that even one silver filling can be a problem.
I definitely think that some people are sensitive to the Mercury in the silver fillings. I'm still planning on getting my three silver fillings removed and replaced with composites. I've been looking into holistic and Mercury free type dentists around my area.
Re: anyone feel better after removing "silver" dental fillings?
I have severe allergies and chronic sinusitis. I also just last week was diagnosed with food allergies. I've been fatigued/tired for years, but was able to adapt my lifestyle to my need for more sleep. I know my main problem is the allergies, but am curious about the fillings. Since they are coming loose, the resin replacements will be mostly covered by my insurance. Getting these replaced will still leave 4 other silver fillings in my mouth though.
Re: anyone feel better after removing "silver" dental fillings?
Absolutely. I felt better after removing my mercury-silver dental amalgams right away. One of the first things that went away, were those headaches. The muscle pains have only slowly gone away, but I've had great improvements...in so many areas.
I write about this all the time. Because of this problem with these amalgams, that how I got so interested in being healthy. Also I still take herbs to assist in this healing.
My history about this, spans decades. I'll explain more, if anyone likes.
Also, if you get these dental amalgams replaced, get the best white fillings around. I chose porcelain for their durabilty. It's been a good choice.
Re: anyone feel better after removing "silver" dental fillings?
I had all of my mercury amalgam fillings removed last summer (13 of them). It cost me about $7,000.00 out of pocket but it was well worth it. Don't be discouraged, there are less expensive dentists but you need one familiar with safe practices. I used a homeopathic dentist who prepared my body for the removals, then removed them safely using gas masks and oxygen. Within two months I had dramatic results. Some of my symptoms were: loss of normal voice, unable to speak clearly, muscle and joint aches, short term memory loss, numbness that would come and go in my toes, feet and hands - sometimes my whole arm would go numb - I was extremely fatigued and not able to work. First, I went to a ton of specialists and had thousands of dollars worth of tests (paid my my insurance company). No one could find anything wrong with me, but I had symptoms of MS and fibromyalgia. Someone told me about mercury toxicity. In my state, they are reviewing the possibility of banning mercury amalgams - in fact right now, all mercury products have been banned from my state. By the way, I also had chronic sinusitus and food allergies (still dealing with the food sensitivities but the sinusitis is gone now).
Re: anyone feel better after removing "silver" dental fillings?
Sneezydiva,
My problems before I had my dental amalgams were fibromyalgia symptoms, loose teeth, and gum disease. I had extreme urinary problems, muscle aches near the joints after trying to exercise, lower back pains, occasional chest pains, and periodic headaches etc. To combat all of this before the amalgams were removed, I became a "health nut". I changed my diet to a healthy one, and consumed copious amounts of herbs. That controlled the discomfort and pains that I had, until one day I linked all of these problems to my dental amalgams.
I had eight mercury fillings, two in each quadrant. They were replaced with porcelain fillings in a two step process.
One of the first noticeable improvements, was that the headaches were gone. Also my teeth tightened up in place. Just before I had these amalgams replaced, my teeth were so loose, I thought I could pull them out with my fingers. They wiggled a lot, which concerned me so much.
For years now after the amalgams were removed, I've felt so good, that I stopped for the most part the herbs that I had been taking. But now, I've started them again, so that I can continue to run faster. I run nearly 20 miles each week. In 1978, a doctor told me to not run further than one hundred yards, and that I was fat, and I was too old.
I learned a lot about herbs that way, through my own experimentation. That is what brings me to the alternative medicine section. I'm so glad to hear other people getting better after these poisonous amalgams are removed. It's our hope that medical professionals take what we write seriously. The pains that I endured were so much. I'm so thankful to be healthy today. I owe it to my great faith in God. For I prayed every day for a cure, "nagging" our Lord as the Bible says, until one day my tooth broke exposing a dental amalgam. Then my pains increased as my exposure to these poisons increased, and after all those years I finally got the connection. With this connection, I took steps to remove these ugly gray-black fillings. I improved slowly, day by day.
DTemple,
That's so great to hear that you are feeling better. Please continue to write on these boards so that people can know...that they can know the truth. It's so frustrating dealing with these doctors, that really should pay more attention to this serious condition caused by dental amalgams. We as "pioneers", have to let everyone know. The more people that know, the more chances they can tell other people....
I can share with you some of detox programs that I developed for myself. Some were absolute failures, when I took the wrong anti-mercury components. Other treatments have been really great.
Re: anyone feel better after removing "silver" dental fillings?
God Bless you Rhody, I got goose bumps reading your post just now. Please do share some of your tried and true herbal remedies. I am considering edta chelation right now and I need some advice (the oral kind). I still have some symptoms but I am so much better. I still have occasional numbness in my toes, feet and right fingers. I am on a no sugar, no white flour, gluten free, no dairy diet but I do eat butter, goat cheese and eggs and fruit. I wrote letters to legislators in my state and joined a group called Consumers for Dental Choice. There have been hearings to ban mercury amalgam fillings in our state. We all wrote letters to the Dept. of Environmental Protection too, because mercury is not just in our mouths, it's in the waste water from dentists offices and other places! I prayed to Mary when I got desperate and I was in so much pain and my prayers were answered with definite "holy signs" that I was moving in the right direction by taking my amalgams out. It was VERY expensive and I thought to myself, what if I wasted all that money?
Re: anyone feel better after removing "silver" dental fillings?
DTemple,
Thanks for the info. I was wondering if you think that I could possibly be dealing with a Mercury problem from the silver fillings I have, even though I only have three silver fillings? My symptoms are severe exhaustion/fatigue 24/7 and major short-term memory loss.
Re: anyone feel better after removing "silver" dental fillings?
Rhody...I had my last two silver fillings removed , but by a dentist who does not believe they are bad. So Im sure he didnt use all precautions and Id like to do a detox just to be sure. I purchased a heavy metal cleanse product with vitamins and herbs. Any particluar herb to continue taking?
Re: anyone feel better after removing "silver" dental fillings?
I stumbled into my new dentist rather by accident. When I asked him about replacing these fillings with non-metal fillings, He looked at me rather shocked and said, We don't do ANY silver fillings here, just white ones. I almost chuckled. I sometimes forget AZ is the land of alternative medicine. So I can only assume he thinks silver fillings are bad, and will take the proper precautions, but how can I know for sure? And what herbs do you take to detox the metal? I am taking milk thistle atm to detox my liver from all my allergy meds.

Re: anyone feel better after removing "silver" dental fillings?
Thank you all for sharing your experiences. I am rather excited now about getting them replaced. If I see an improvement, I might just pay myself to get the rest replaced.
Re: anyone feel better after removing "silver" dental fillings?
The herbs that I took were numerous. What I've found to work were marshmallow root, ginger (small amount), damiana, queen of the meadow, gravel root, gotu kola and a touch of licorice. Sometimes ginseng was good too. There were many others but the above listed herbs did great healing for my urinary problems and muscle pains. I can't remember for sure without looking it up, but I think long time use of licorice is not recommended.
What did not work were supplements that were anti-mercury such as selenium and two others I took together. I got so sick I literally thought I was going to die (another long story). I've found that herbs are generally gentle and slow acting. I've also been consuming cilantro. You can read about cilantro. It is great for removing mercury. For me, I didn't have any noticeable side-affects with cilantro.
To understand more about herbs and how to prepare them, you can read "The Way of Herbs". I made these herbal teas, and put them in the refrigerator, and consumed them over a three day period. When I was extremely sick many many years ago, if I took too many of these herbs, I got a very bad itchy red rash. Only aloe vera could heal the itchy feeling. It was so bad, that the more you scratched, the worse it got. Thanks goodness for aloe vera.
"The Way of Herbs" will also help you learn about the healing crisis (I think that's what it's called), in which at first your system may get a little worse when first taking the herbs. But you must be patient, and slowly consume these herbal teas.
For me, I did all of these things through prayer. Doctors could not help me. Remember that sometimes to be cured of the "uncureable", we must go outside of their circle of knowledge. For with God, all things are possible.
Re: anyone feel better after removing "silver" dental fillings?
DTemple,
I shared your thoughts exactly. Even though when my tooth broke, with my dental amalgam exposed, and with my pains that got worse, I still had doubts. What if I wasted all that money?
So, I decided to have this change-over to white fillings for cosmetic purposes and to remove these amalgam toxins as a minimum. If I got better, that was great. If I did not, then I had all white teeth.
But I just knew somehow that these mercury fillings were connected to my ill health. And over time, I then knew I was right. I'm so well today, that I'm much healthier than most people my age. When I run the 19.5 miles each week, sometimes my legs or lower back gets a little sore. But lately with the herbs again, I run like I'm thirty years younger.
Re: anyone feel better after removing "silver" dental fillings?
Hi!
I had my whole mouth done. I also paid for it $$$... I had a great dentist and he even corrected my bite. I think it was the right thing to do. It did not bring me miraculous changes. But I was exposed to it for 40 + years and I think that it takes a long time to leach the mercury out of your system.
Nobody should be getting mercury amalgam fillings in 2005.
My dentist doesn't do it. He is convinced they are not healthy.
So do not get any mercury amalgam fillings and get them out if you can afford to. Mercury is EXTREMELY toxic. Just do a search on it.
Better no mercury than to wonder what it is doing to your body.
Re: anyone feel better after removing "silver" dental fillings?
montreal1951,
I also had my fillings for most of my life, probably about 40 years and I still have some symptoms. The most miraculous recovery for me was my voice. I was unable to speak with a normal voice and was told I had spasmodic dysphonia. Exactly two months after my amalgams were removed, my original voice came back. People were amazed! I never expected my voice to recover, I just wanted to feel better. My dentist is in CT and uses safe procedures. My state involved him in a law suit because he was claiming that mercury was toxic, he finally just recently won the lawsuit, but they literally tried to take his license away.
Re: anyone feel better after removing "silver" dental fillings?
DTemple,
Do you think my symptoms of severe fatigue/exhaustion 24/7 and major short-term memory loss could be related to my silver fillings, even though I only have three silver fillings in my mouth?
Re: anyone feel better after removing "silver" dental fillings?
Hey Sneezy,
I had my amalgams (8) replaced about 4 years ago (w/ resin's). At age 35 I began to develop mild symptoms that seemed to worsen every year. The worst were the constant head pressure, fatigue, memory/focus and metalic taste in my mouth. Immediatly after the amalgam removal that annoying metal taste in mouth (that I'd had for as long as I can remember) was gone...100%! The other symptoms soon followed. It's hard to really know how much of my health improvement is directly related to my amalgam removal, but it sure is interesting how all the other "healthy" things I was trying had been proving fruitless until I had those amalgams removed. (food for thought) If I had to do it again, the only thing I'd do differently is I'd use a dentist that was properly trained to do so. No matter the cost. If I were your parent, you'd be at the dentist right now. Luck.
