Tell me your experience with a holistic doctor?

Hi,
Are holistic doctors quacks? It seems like everytime I mention one, people say they are quacks.
Before I made the appointment to see this doctor today, I told him that I suffer from constipation, gas, bloating, a little pain , fatigue. I was under the assumption that these symptoms are somehow related to a food intolorance like gluten or lactose. I went to a conventional doctor and my blood work IgG came out postive(38)...but my doctor told me that it wasn't an absolute way to determine celiac disease and that I would have to go see a GI specialist(which I am on the 12th). Anyhow, in the midst of all of this, I called a holistic doctor regarding my symptoms and initially asked for an allergy test for different foods. He said that the first visit(consultation and examination) is free, but I would have to pay for any kind of TREATMENT. Well, I went in there today thinking that he would do an allergy test on me, he did this thing to my arms and legs that he called kinesiology and felt around my rib cage and spleen and said that I have a hitial hernia and that i'm hypoglycemic(by the way now that I think about it, I do urinate OFTEN and I think that's a symptom). Well, he didn't do the allergy test cause he said now he doesn't have to since he know's what's wrong. He said that he could fix the hypoglycemia with acupuncture and PULL down my hernia with his hands. Both would have costed me $120 total. Could you please tell me your experience with a holistic doctor and was the outcome effcetive?..thank you.

Hi Jessicca -
I am a great believer in Herbs and Alternative Medicine but something sounds really "Fishy" with your experience. My raw gut feelings would be to stay away.....
Maybe try out another "Alternative Medicine" Doc......

I would definately keep going to this docotr. I also go to a doctor who does appied kineosology. It's very affective in testing people and there is science behind it.
I love my doctor and I believe he has saved my life. Before I went to him, I was told I wouldn't live a notmal life because I have a disorder that is untreatable, but he gave me natural meds and I'm doing TONS better!!!

Really,
I just don't get how that doc diagnosed me with hypoglycemia and a hiatial hernia with just moving my arms and legs and feeling around under my rib cage!
Plus, I don't suffer from acid reflux and having a hiatial hernia is associated with that.

Re: Tell me your experience with a holistic doctor?

This is a tricky one.

In my experience most holistic doctors aren’t quacks. I believe most of them really would like to help. But some are more competent then others. Some have more or less truth in there treatments. I don’t think there is on treatment philosophy that has nailed the absolute truth. So you need to find someone you trust. Sometimes I have tried a treatment that sounded ridicules and I just tried for fun, but got good results. Others sounded right but did nothing. I’m afraid it is a bit try and errors until you get the results you want.

In this specific case I think I would find another who is willing do to the test you wanted done. You can always come back later if you decide to give kinesiology a chance. Or find another kinesiology practitioner and see if he/she gets the same results.

I have personally tried 2 kinesiology practitioners. The first one I only saw once and had absolutely no confidence in her findings. For one thing she promised much more then I be lived she could deliver. The second one I have more confidence in. She has put me on some supplements, and also gives me zone therapy and shiatsu. I have improved, but do believe more in the zone therapy and shiatsu, then in the kinesiology. But I haven’t written kinesiology completely of as a tool that could yield some correct info.

Re: Tell me your experience with a holistic doctor?

I don't think that holistic doctors are quacks. Holistic medicine has been around a lot longer than conventional medicine. From my experience, the people who call holistic doctors quacks are the ones that don't know much about holistic medicine. Sorry if it sounds like I'm ranting. lol I just get upset when some conventional doctors want to keep prescribing this pill, and that pill. And if they can't find something wrong with a person, instead of admitting that they don't know what's wrong, they say everything is fine.
