Am I Iodine Deficient?

I did the Iodine test, I think. I used povidone-iodine solution, 10%, which is the only thing I could get at Wmart. Is this good enough for a iodine test? I am not sure if this is a strong enough solution of Iodine or if there is something else I should have used. But, just for kicks and giggles, I put a patch on my inner forearm the size of a half dollar before I went to bed. When I woke up it was completely gone in approx. 8 hours. You would not even have known I had put any on my arm. Could it just have worn off during sleep? Any suggestions anyone??

Re: Am I Iodine Deficient?

Your right this is no use for the iodine patch test.
This is a product for wound cleaning with piovine and then preventing infection with iodine which means the iodine is diluted.

You should get tincture of iodine on its own for the test.

Re: Am I Iodine Deficient?

Liverock, I got the tincture of Iodine and put a patch on my inner forearm about the size of a 50 cent piece. In about four hours it has faded quite a lot! You can still see it, but, my guess is that in another four hours you won't be able to tell that I had a patch there at all! Any ideas as to where I can educate myself on iodine deficiency? Thanks for your help!

If you google The Iodine Project as previously stated you will find all the research you need.

If you are mildly deficient you can try painting a 6" square of iodine on your stomach every day until the test shows you are adequate. You should also do The Basal Rate Temperature Test as well.

Re: Am I Iodine Deficient?

I don't see why you don't just use iodized salt. It is on the grocery store shelf right beside the regular salt. I don't think it costs any more money either. If you don't use salt or don't eat at home where you know what salt is being used, then do all this other stuff.

Re: Am I Iodine Deficient?

I would be stunned if you do not more than enough sodium in the form of salt(which has been iodized for a century or so to prevent goiters)...what in the world brought this up?
