So due to MS I had many days of steroid treatment. This
decreases your immune system and due to swallowing issues
I wasn't eating. All of this brought on a terrible case of thrush.
To the point where I had to go on more meds - ugh! - because
it was down my throat, mouth, esophaugus, stomach. It has
gotten MUCH better, however it is still lingering. I am on lozenges,
however would like to try anything else that will help, since I've
had it for over a month...ugh...
I've tried warm salt water rinses and plain yogurt, which I eat
It seems every time I've ever had to be on an antibiotic I get thrush and bad yeasty problems. But for the thrush I've always used this remedy and it's worked wonders, I can feel it working the very first time.
Tea Tree Oil and water mixture.
Always use a glass container, and a metal spoon. No plastic anything.
Never swallow the mixture! Just gargle and swish and spit.
1/4 cup water and 4 drops tea tree oil.
Mix well for each mouth full to swish, gargle and spit with, remember not to swallow it.
When you are done with swishing and spitting the full 1/4 cup, Do Not rinse your mouth for 10min.s if you have to spit then do so, but don't swallow.
After the ten min. is up you can rinse with a salt water.
Instant relief and it seems I don't need to do it as often as any other treatments I've tried. Just as needed.
Thrush is a fungal infection that can be cured with the anti fungal drugs like Diflucan, Sporanox and Nystatin.
Probiotic supplements also help --like ThreeLac (L sporogenes), Primal Defense, Culturelle, PB-8 and others.
I'll add my encouragement for probiotics. I had a case of oral thrush this year after extended antibiotic treatment. The nystatin made me so nauseous I decided to pound it with more probiotics (Primal Defense) and see if that worked instead. Much to my relief it did. My case wasn't too bad and probiotics alone might not kick it for you but they should help speed up the process.
