magnesium as a muscle relaxer?

I heard that magnesium can be used as a muscle relaxer and also for headaches. Has anyone heard of this or tried this? Is it safe?
Thanks!!!

Re: magnesium as a muscle relaxer?

When I was having trouble with headaches (a lot of stress at work), my naturopath put me on magnesium. I don't remember what the dose was, but it definitely helped.

Re: magnesium as a muscle relaxer?

I called my insurance company and had them fax me a list of all their covered naturopathic and/or holistic doctors. Then I called each one on the list and made a "consultation" appt. and fortunately really clicked with the 2nd one on the list.

I live in a very small town and there were several within easy driving distance to choose from.

Re: magnesium as a muscle relaxer?

maresmith,

Magnesium is a muscle relaxer and the daily dose is 400mgm. Calcium also natures natural relaxer cannot be absorbed without magneium and vitamin D.

The best form that I have found is the chelated type magnesium and it is best absorbed if taken in divided doses-- 3 times dialy. It is contained in every cell of your body. And, 66% of your magnesium is in your bones.

If you are having spasms or muscle cramps -- chances are your system lacks magnesium.

Re: magnesium as a muscle relaxer?

So would calcium help an anxious person to relax? Can anxiety result from a lack of calcium?
