I have been dealing with a chronic cough d/t post nasal drip for almost a year.(mostly at night.) I have been to the doc 3x over past 9mths. Obtained zpack antibiotic the 1st time. The pink nonsteroid inhaler and a chest xray (all clear) 2nd time and finally rec of buying OTC product like Claritin.
None of this has worked. I have also used the neti-pot. It may help some for about a day but no real change and I didn't want to have to use it daily.
Make sure you're not having too much sugar or dairy products esp ice cream before bed. That will make you have post nasal drip too. I have had this problem for years too, off and on. Some things that may cure you may cause you to have a stuffy nose and/or head congestion. I decided I'd rather spit it out than having it stuck in my head. Are you close to menopause age? That will cause a host of problems. Please post and let us know if you find a solution.
I just got over a really bad cold, complete with a really awful post nasal drip... I started using an echinacea spray and it cleared me up in a few days. I'm sure there are lots of brands out there, but I used Naturally Nova Scotia.
I found a homeopath that works GREAT for me, and I use it daily. It's called "Mucuous Membranes" (I know - yuck) and the bottle reads: Futureplex B-8 by Antitiox. Most homeopathic stores should have it or should be able to get it. I order it on-line.
I have had chronic post nasal drip for my all life, and it was horrible. It was going on all the time. I went through 2 boxes of tissues a day.
Now, when I wake up, I dose myself with this tincture. It's a Godsend. It works so well that I am never without a bottle in my pocketbook. So many foods trigger more of a production -- bread, cheese, etc. -- so out comes my homeopath before I eat my toast in the morning.

I have not visited this thread for awhile. - Alot of great remedies.
My post nasal drip has improved quite a bit. I'm not sure why, but i'm sleeping alot better and coughing less. BUT, I will keep this list for future reference.
I have heard PND can be caused by GI problems, as was stated. I have never had heartburn except a couple of times and don't have much in the way of GI. - Who knows? To be honest, I have had others tell me I should follow-up with a GI doc or pulmonologist, BUT, I have had alot of health issues in the last 3yrs, and I do not want any more tests, meds or to see any "new" specialists. I am so glad my symptoms have improved and can live with the small amount of discomfort I have now form the occasional coughing.
I AM recently postmenopausal at 50, and heard that can enhance underlying tendencies towards allergies. - We live in a high allergin area, especially mold and ragweed, so that makes sense to me.
