Anything useful for a schizophrenic?

Just a question but is there anything useful for a schizophrenic? I've heard of orthomolecular psychiatry but haven't gotten into to much deal about it because my family is like drugs are the way to go but in my opinion drugs don't cure your illness they just act like a band aid.

Re: Anything useful for a schizophrenic?

I would look into Chinese Medicine. I studied it for about 2 years before I ran out of money and had to discontinue. They consider mental illness a stagnation of the shen (the spirit) so they use shen-clearing herbs for mental illness. I am actually using a Chinese formula now for rage due to menopause and the paper that is included in the box says it treats schizophrenia and hallucinations as well. It's called Chai Hu Long Gu Mu Li Pian. I would consult a Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine, though, to discuss it. Good luck. I feel sorry for people who suffer from these kinds of illnesses because it's a living hell. I wish there was something to really cure these people.

You said: "in my opinion drugs don't cure your illness"...there isn't anything that CURES Schizophrenia and have not heard of anything natural.

I know there is no cure I'm just saying that if drugs do work whjich they only work partially they act only like a band aid.

Re: Anything useful for a schizophrenic?

I know what you mean. My late brother was diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic when he was 17, back in 1978. Back then, I believe he was put on a strong dose of lithium. When he took the meds, he was literally like a zombie. You couldn't even have a conversation with him. Yet when he didn't take it, of course, he was paranoid and delusional. There was no in between. I've heard the medications of today aren't much better. I have a friend with schizo affective disorder. I saw the movie 'A Beautiful Mind' a few years back and I thought of my brother and just cried. It saddens me that after all this time, science hasn't came up with better medications. True, we've came a long way from shock therapy. However, we still have a long way to go. The mind is a very complex thing. Heck, they can't even come up with a way to treat depression and anxiety without taking away one's sex drive. Yes, there's Wellbutrin, but that makes many people irritable, and who wants to have sex with a crabby person? Sorry, I don't have any suggestions for any natural remedies. I will say that I was reading recently that alcohol and drugs make schizophrenia worse. Unfortunately, though, these people are at high risk for self-medicating with these substances. My brother used drugs rather heavily when he was younger. Anyway, I just wanted to share my thoughts on the matter. I'll be following this thread closely and I'm looking forward to the responses you get. Take care.
