| Re: Anything useful for a schizophrenic?
I know what you mean. My late brother was diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic when he was 17, back in 1978. Back then, I believe he was put on a strong dose of lithium. When he took the meds, he was literally like a zombie. You couldn't even have a conversation with him. Yet when he didn't take it, of course, he was paranoid and delusional. There was no in between. I've heard the medications of today aren't much better. I have a friend with schizo affective disorder. I saw the movie 'A Beautiful Mind' a few years back and I thought of my brother and just cried. It saddens me that after all this time, science hasn't came up with better medications. True, we've came a long way from shock therapy. However, we still have a long way to go. The mind is a very complex thing. Heck, they can't even come up with a way to treat depression and anxiety without taking away one's sex drive. Yes, there's Wellbutrin, but that makes many people irritable, and who wants to have sex with a crabby person? Sorry, I don't have any suggestions for any natural remedies. I will say that I was reading recently that alcohol and drugs make schizophrenia worse. Unfortunately, though, these people are at high risk for self-medicating with these substances. My brother used drugs rather heavily when he was younger. Anyway, I just wanted to share my thoughts on the matter. I'll be following this thread closely and I'm looking forward to the responses you get. Take care.
