Magnesium/Potassium

I have been getting severe muscle cramps in my legs and feet for a few months now. I have recently had reverse osmosis installed in my home due to hard water. Do I need to take a magnesium supplement? I hear trace mineral research has a product called Electrolyte Stamina that has mag. sulfate and mag oxide @ 290 MG & potassium @ 590MG. But I also take a multi vitamin claiming to have 250Mg of Magnesium called Be Wholesome. Is it safe to take both? I work out 4-5 Days a week and notice that I cramp more during those times. I also have been taking oral contraceptives for almost 10 years.

Re: Magnesium/Potassium

250 mg is not very much magnesium. Most people need much more than they are getting.

I think transdermal magnesium is one of the best ways to get magnesium because it is absorbed directly through the skin. I use Magnesium oil (buy it by the gallon). I get the Health and Wisdom brand. I also take magnesium glycinate chelated capsules. Some people have a problem with large amounts of mag causing loose stools (I certainly do!). The chelated is buffered, which eliminates any caustic effect on colon activity.
