 Being switched from long term Aricept to Exelon
Has anyone else had a family member with Alzheimer's switched from long term use of Aricept to Exelon with a major worsening of their family member's condition. I am asking because this happened to my father this past August. He is now in a nursing home. My mom went to a Alzheimer's support meeting and another couple there had the same story she did. Both men were weaned from the Aricept they had been on for almost two years over a period of a week and then started on Exelon. Approximately three days later both went off the deep edge and have deteriorated rapidly. There was a Pfizer representative at this monthly meeting and she said that Exelon was not tested on patients who had been on Aricept long term and my mother said she seemed visibly upset about what they had told her. I have already written to the doctor who was treating my father about this information but I thought if there are more people out there with this experience maybe we could save some people from going through this.
