Unhappy End Stage of Life??

Please if anyone could help me...

My grandma is going down hill very very fast.
Since thursday and today is monday. she has stopped eating and spits everything out. she barely drinks nothing major. she keeps trying to gag herself. Her oxgyen level was at 84% sunday so they had to put oxgyen on her which helped but she kept pulling it off but now she is back to normal with that. her blood pressue was 95/60 yesterday. she just lays and moans and cries. she talks about the past and keeps saying please help me. she keeps holding on. I can't see her last months or even weeks, but has anyone else gone through this. she is 93 and has had alzheimers for at least 5 years. they have been giving her tyenol for paint but don't know if its working. you can't understand her anymore talking cause she is losing her voice. she is also bleeding internally we think cause she has black blood in her stool. she is in the nursing home and to take her by ambulance to a hospital would make her die.

Tuesday: well since the last time I have posted she is still the same. I think the most she drinks is maybe 120cc of juice. which i don't know what that is in ozs but its not a lot. The eating food is barely anything at all. I don't think she will last another week like this but I could be wrong. Her blood pressure is at 96/56 today. I am going to stop after work to see her.

anyway grandmas blood pressure yesterday was 84/42 and now today it was 130/ over something but the question I have is... the nurse came on duty and said she never noticed anything today but within two hours all of a sudden her fingers or fingernails were blue. Can anyone explain to me is this a sign of the end?

I have posted elsewhere that is why this looks funny above.

I just want someone to let me know a time frame on how long she has left. I wish she would just go in peace so she is not in pain.

Re: End Stage of Life??

I am sorry I don't have enough knowledge to help you with this question. The nursing home should be able to give your grandmother something that will stop her pain. You may have to contact her doctor and ask him to prescribe something. The blue in her nails is a sign that there is not enough oxygen in her blood. I am sorry for your situation.

Re: End Stage of Life??

Hi Teresa,
I'm sorry about your grandma. Mine just went through the same thing. She only lasted two weeks with just about the same symptoms you are describing. The symptoms are very normal for a dying person. Sorry. Watch for the urine output. When she stops putting out urine it is only 24-72 hours ..... I'm sorry. My grandma died January 14th.
Take care. God be with you and your family.

Re: End Stage of Life??

Hello, You might want to consider hospice... They will help control the pain even in the nursing home. They can give more for pain and make them more comfortable. So you might want to consider that as an option. Also they can tell you more of a time fram. I never knew it, but hospice does cover alzheimers. I am so grateful to them for the help they have give me and my family. They have been a big help with my dad who has alzheimers and is her at home. Good luck.. Sincerly Rocky Ann
