Wink A Small Victory - or A Nice Medium Step! :>

Hi Everyone,

I just have to report this one. I will try to make it short. We (my sister and I), have been trying to get my mom to purchase a rolling walker for my dad. Well, we finally got a second prescription for this medical device from his family doctor. I did some research on the internet and found out the average prices and how many different styles there are. Also, what kind of prescription that you have to get to try to get Medicare to pay for part of this kind of walker.

Well..... Wonder of all Wonders!!!!!!!!!! :> :> :> Monday morning, my parents and I went looking at a few stores on my suggestion. It was my normal visiting day (really working with them day). They had looked a little and I had looked a lot. We went to Walgreens, because they said they had a rolling walker in stock, in their store. None there. So, we went to a nice big new Walmart. They had 2, in boxes. But, lots of good pictures on the box and they would put it together for free in under an hour!!!!! :>

Yeah!!! We hit the jackpot. One thing more accomplished to help my mom and dad. Mom now gets to get out more with my dad, cause he can walk better with the rolling walker than with a cane. (It has a seat and brakes and basket and is wonderful - for now!) And my dad is getting out more, which is supposed to be good for AD sufferers. And he is getting some exercise by walking some. At least he is not sitting in his easy chair, sleeping or watching tv!!!!! :>

He may out Stage it, but for now, he loves his new toy!!!!! It only cost around $125. and I will file for Medicare to pay their part. Do not know if it is 80% or 60%, but it is worth it, whatever they pay. If anyone else gets one, be sure and do it correctly, or you may not get reimbursed at all.

One small step for the AD person and the caregivers!!!!!!!!!!! :> :> :> :> :>

Now, I will have to think of another step, that might be accepted or not too hard to accomplish, with some help from my sister!

Take care and good luck for yall too!

Love, Wannabe

Good job Wannabe! I'm glad your dad has his walker now. I had a similar one when I broke my foot and it made SUCH a difference. (I have loaned it to an elderly friend of mine and I hope it is helping her now.) I will have a piece of cake or something today to celebrate the victory with you, hehe.

Wooo hooo!! Congratulations on a major step toward keeping your father safer!

Next step? Is your mother still driving....? With a diagnosis of dementia, she shouldn't be. Taking the car and car keys away almost started WW3 with my mother. Good luck!

Like Roseanne Rosannadanna's father used to say, "It's always something!" (think Gilda).

YAY!!!! It's nice to have those little victories once in a while, isn't it?

I raise a toast to VICTORY in our accomplishments and our appreciation of them!!!

Boy do we learn to appreciate the the things we used to take for granted, eh?

Love, Barb
