Oh yes, mashed banana is a firm favourite, just make sure the potassium in them doesn't interfere with any medications !!
We have 3 levels of food consistancy used in Australia ~
Full (normal)
Minced (lumpy but soft)
and Vitamised (pureed - very soft) (sometimes the terminology is different, but that's the basic idea)
Minced diet is for someone who is having swallowing difficult, but only just. They can usually swallow normal fluids well.
Vitamised diet is for those who have pretty much lost the swallowing technique and are at high risk of aspiration anything that goes in the mouth. They also drink varying consistancy liquids too (called thickened - and trust me, it tastes disgusting)
That being said: Ice-cream is NOT a favourite, because it melts and turns into a liquid ... jelly isn't great either unless its REALLY mushed up and with custard.
I also thought of Sausages (sans skin), hot dogs (sans skin) and cut the crusts off sandwiches.
Soup is good, and it can be easily thickened by using breadcrumbs too. Just make sure all the lumpy bits are out.
I just thought of something else but it just went out of my head. I'll post again if I remember. Oh yes, I did .. those on a vitamised diet LOSE WEIGHT (guaranteed) so you will need to bulk them up in other ways (power milkshakes etc, full cream everything, butter on/in vegetables & mash potato)
Hugs & Cheers
