I have noticed that over the past few weeks, when my mother's conversation is anything other than rote (how are you?) she closes her eyes when she speaks. Has anyone noticed this in their loved ones? Is it a way for her to screen out stimuli and process language?
Very possibly roxy With mom her auditory perception and ability to communicate is very altered. Her visual perception is much better so her visual interferes with her auditory and ability to answer. At one time she did tend to close her eyes when she was trying to concentrate on forming an answer... but now she just lets the visual interrupt her thought process. Now I get the first few words of a sentence she is trying to say and the remainder is a reference to what she is seeing. It is so difficult for them to find the right words and form a proper sentence... so just assume she is concentrating
