Today has not been a bad day, just reeeeaaaalllly hot and humid and i have a cold so not 100 %.Husband decided today for the first time to "go out" by himself without telling me.I have not worried about that before because he has a walker and is extremely slow.Normally he is helped down the stairs from the patio into the yard but today he just went down, walker and all.....Luckily our property is fenced and has a gate which I can lock if I need to,like if we go for a nap and mister wakes up before me.......today he just visited a neighbour across the road for half an hour but it made him feel much better.I`m not writing because I expect any replies to this, just writing because it feels good.

It is good that he can still walk on his own and knows that he should go to the neighbor's and not to get lost. However, in the long run, he would think they are the caregivers and that they are linked to your place and so forth...
It would help if you let the neighbors know that they should calll you if he goes there so you know where he is.
It is like my FIL, he went to the neighbors and never got lost. Watch out. In the future, he may need the caregiver to be with him outside.
Summer colds in the heat are definitely not fun. It was yucky hot here today as well. It is good that hubby went somewhere safe and returned safely without injury. Sometimes they do amaze me. Before I moved my parents here, they lived on the third floor of a facility. Dad liked it "up on the hill". But a few times he decided he had to "go". Down two flights of steps, out the back door, and across the lawn to the street. This from a man that couldn't walk to supper without huffing and puffing from heart issues, not to mention limping on his bad knees. There he went "hot footin it" across the lawn.
Just know that once a wanderer.. always a wanderer. They don't always go where they know or do it safely. Perhaps it's time for a few precautions
Glad it all turned out well and you had a good day!!!
