Searching for Links

Can anyone suggest links where I can find information on how drugs and alcohol affect AD? It is no secret that my mother was no saint in her past and I'm wondering now that I've read through the stages of the disease and see how fast she has declined what that may or may not have to do with it. Thanks.

Re: Searching for Links

This board does not allow for the posting of links. Do a search of Alcohol related dementia. There is a lot of information on Alcohol related dementia and it is a different dementia from Alzheimer's. Yet they are so similar that it is difficult to determine between the two. There is also Drug Induced Dementia so you could do a search on that one as well. Again, the symptoms are very similar to Alzheimer's.

There is also mixed dementia. This can be caused by a combination of reasons including alcohol, drugs, Alzheimer's, Vascular deficiencies or any of the other dementia causes. I would take a good geriatric neurologist who specializes in dementia to give you a diagnosis that specific. In the long run, there are some minor differences between the different dementia, but for the most part what you deal with on a daily basis is the same.

Dad was misdiagnosed with Alzheimer's for years when in fact he had Vascular Dementia... but it was still dementia

Love, deb

Re: Searching for Links

Thanks yet again, Deb. I wasn't even sure where to start looking, but now that I know I think I might be loaded with questions for her neurologist when we see him in feb.
