our Daughter makes me proud

deb, in reading about you extending your studies in the other thread, I want to tell you that my daughter, who is an RCA, reg.care attentent, is furthering her studies also, after my mom went though all that she went though during her stay at the hospital and during pallative care, my daughter has decieded to further her studies in that area, as there is no one currently at our hospital with this qualification the director of Healh care for patients has put together a proposal to the Hospital about having a team inplace for just this kind of case and has asked if he can be her sponser/mentor.. I know that she will be an excellent advocate as she was with me... I am so proud of her...

Re: our Daughter makes me proud

Judy... that is what we need more of. We need more people that have a true awareness of this disease in positions to be helpful to those with the disease. You should be so proud of her and I am so thankful for her willingness to take it all a step beyond for the next person such as your Mom.

I do believe one of the main problems is awareness. Doctors, nurses, hospsital staff, and other medical personnel that do not have a clue what it is like to have or care for dementia. They seem to work off a standard flow chart that doesn't have dementia as one of the bullet points. Those of us that "Get" this disease have got to do all we can to educate the rest. Your daughter is a prime example of somebody that is going to make a huge difference!

Love, deb
