No, there is not a test for ALS. It is done by a matter of ruling out other possible diseases by doing blood work, MRI, spinal tap, and many other tests.
However, there is a test to see if you have the SOD1 gene. But that test is only useful if someone else in your family has had the disease.
("Familial" ALS instead of Sporadic ALS).
My dad went through many tests. It can take several months sometimes before a diagnosis is made.
