| Re: age at diagnosis als
My mother was just diagnosed at 81. We noticed her symptoms about 9 months ago and she was having some issues with her throat at first then noticed her speech. Originally her doctor told her it was allergies but it continued to get worse. In September I brought her to an ENT who could not find anything wrong and suggested it was age related. Her speech continued to get worse and over the past 6 months the weakness progressed substantially and she has lost approx 25 pounds since June and now down to about 69-70. She still manages to use a walker to get from her bed to bath but each day is harder. Communication by phone almost impossible. As of last week she is now under home hospice care. I feel like each day is a waiting game.
