Testing for different types of anemia - Anemia Message Board

I had a blood test for anemia and I noticed that ferritin levels were tested. They came back "normal".
Am I right in thinking that this isn't enough to rule out other types of anemia?
The doctor told me that other types would have shown up, but I am wise enough not to accept that as the final word.

My ferritin level was tested when I had a bloodworkup done, and it is very low...it was a 2 when I was tested the end of August. Based on this really low number, my doctors immediately diagnosed that I have "iron-deficiency anemia".

Was the only blood test you had done for your ferritin level?

In my opinion, you should have had a pretty complete bloodworkup done. My dr. didn't order every bloodtest, but wanted to rule out certain things before ordering more tests.
