Can anyone tell me if dark circles under your eyes are a symptom of iron deficiency anemia.
I have been taking iron supplements and feel a bit better but still have dark circles under my eyes and wondered if this was connected.
Dark circles under the eyes can be caused by allergies, or any other illness, so it is not specific to anemia. However, in combination with pale skin, yellow looking eyeballs, and light pink inner eyelid tissues, it could spell anemia.
Hi there, well I do notice that when my eyes get dark underneath and look very tired my iron is usually very low. I have found this out over years of dealing with low iron stores. So sometimes it becomes a warning sign for me. If I notice my under eyes are darking and looking hollow then I take more iron and within a few days all ok and I stop again..!!! It would be worth while to keep track of as other things can also cause dark under eyes but for me low iron is one....debbiep.
I have PA, and have pronounced dark under eye circles...No amount of cover up works...I am 35, but the circles make me look older...I am hoping once my PA is under control, that they will fade... One can only hope..
Your genes play a big part in it also, dehydration, low B12 (I have PA for 10 yrs now and still have them under eye darkness, just not as bad)low iron, stress all play a part. For me I notice when I drink lots of liquid, preferably water the dark circles actualy diminish, I'm just not consistent with my drinking water like I should.
Or it could just be that you are actually tired. i know having anemia you are more fatigued. But unless your working out out and uping your metabolism and resting (full night of sleep eating right ect) It may not be anemia related at all...
