There are many different ways to express the numbers in a blood count. The only numbers that matter are the ones that are being used by the laboratory that is doing the testing. There are many kinds of anemia. Some of which are not expressed in absolute amounts of iron but in shapes and capacities of red blood cells to carry oxygen. Also another thing that has to be measured is the relationship of the Red Cell counts to the White blood cell counts. Usually if the reds are down, the whites are up. if they are both way down it can be caused from severe disease, chemo or radiation treatments
