I am scheduled to start venofer on Wednesday. My insurance doesn't want to cover the venofer but they will cover infed. Can anyone tell me what I would be looking at costwise if I opted to go with the venofer anyway? The info on infed is a little scary.
I am so sorry your insurance won't cover Venofer! I actually had my first infusion of Venofer yesterday morning and am doing fine. But I did wonder how much it cost. I just found this website, but who knows if it's the same in all areas of the country. http://uuhsc.utah.edu/pharmacy/bulletins/venofer.html
Toward the bottom there's a chart of the wholesale cost of Venofer, Infed & Ferrlecit...and of course the Venofer is the most expensive.
Thanks for the link. I ended up with a BAD reaction to Infed so my insurance will now cover the Venofer. I go for my second dose tomorrow. I haven't seen a bill yet so I wondered what I was in for. Glad all is going well for you.
I'm so glad for you that your insurance decided to cover the Venofer. I had the IV Venofer every week for the past nine months and had no trouble at all with it. According to my hematologist, other forms of IV iron are associated with many ,potentially severe side effects. Good luck with it. I feel SO much better since I've had it! Now I take oral iron 3x/day and I go back to see him in October.
