Canker sores due to anemia?

Anyone out there have increased canker sores due to anemia? My doctor says it's a possible cause. A few months ago I started getting groups of them and then was diagnosed with mild iron-deficiency anemia. I've been on iron for 5 weeks but I just got another batch of them, worse than ever. Should I be concerned the supplements aren't working?

Thanks.

Re: Canker sores due to anemia?

Hard to say.

I've had canker sores all my life with and without anemia. I can't say that when I'm anemic they are any worse.

For the past two weeks, I've had horrible bouts of them and my ferritin is higher than it's been in a long time. But, I recently changed toothpastes and I think that is the culprit for me.

My friend had this with her anemia, B-12 deficiency and Ferritin 4. Have you checked your B's? FLFLOWERGIRL

Re: Canker sores due to anemia?

On doing a little info-grazing, apparently the common culprits of choice seems to be deficiencies in iron, B-vits, and/or zinc. If you have food sensitivities, this can cause chronic bouts of canker sores. Stress is also a biggie.

I agree with FLFLOWERGIRL about getting your Bs tested.
