Do different labds have different numbers? - Anemia Message Board

I was looking at some other posts with lab results. Some are saying they are under the normal and other's are over the normal and they're talking about the same test.

My lab results say the normal ferritin is 10-154, however I read on-line 3 different normal ranges, including 50-150.

So how do you know which ones to go by?

You just go by what your ranges are on your labs. I can tell you for Hgb it is usually 11.5 or 12.0 and for ferritin it is 10 or 15 as the bottom I think. If the number is really far out, I wouldn't pay too much attention it may be someone from another country. We have basic numbers and you will begin to recognize them after a while as standard. All labs do have different ranges, but each vial of blood is measured to that particular range. This is why we say you should post your range. It can make a difference whether you are anemic or not.
