daughter's low ferritin - Anemia Message Board

Hi

I posted a couple of weeks ago to say that my daughter, aged 12 years, had a ferritin level of 14.

She was prescribed ferrous sulphate and has been unable to take it due to severe constipation, takes after her mum!

I have been taking ferrous fumerate for my low ferritin and was prescribed 322mgs which has 100 mgs elemental. She on the other hand has been prescribed 2x 210 mgs per day which is a total of 130 mgs elemental per day. That's more than I have been given and my levels were lower than hers!! I just don't understand.

Anyway, I have another test booked in for next week to see where I stand now so I will post my results.

I must say that I do not see any improvement and actually feel worse some days as far as the fatigue goes.

Mac2--Do yo have the same doctor? It sounds like you are the one that is not on enough iron especially if your numbers are much lower, hum.......... I hope that you get good results for your blood test but with your symptoms, I wouldn't be surprised if your numbers are still low. Wish you well. Keep us posted. FLFG

No it was a different doctor, but at the same practice. Will let you know what my readings are probably by the end of the week. Take care
