Confused - Anemia Message Board

Hi

My last test results were ferritin 22 and haemoglobin 13.4. That was back in Februaury.

I have just been retested and my result was ferritin 50 and haemoglobin 12.6.

I am happy that my ferritin levels are up but how has my other reading gone down?

Mac2-I really don't know the answer to that, I'm not even sure if I have seen this case scenario before. I can only ~think~ that it would be to do with storing of the iron, this is my ignorant guess. Perhaps it will catch back up again. Retest in another 3 months and see what results you get then. Did your doctor give you any reasons for this? BTW, congrats on the ferritin, even though you were on a lower dose than your daughter it worked. I wonder what the higher dose would do for you. Take care. FLFG

I know it's a bit confusing isn't it. Trust me to be awkward!! Don't get me wrong I am really happy that my ferritin is on the up, I must be doing something right!

These results were given to me by the receptionist and to be honest she's probably given me the wrong ones! In February when I rang for my results she gave me some results from 20 years ago when I was pregnant with my daughter and was anaemic. Something made me question what she had said, so if I hadn't questioned her I would have had very old readings! I will see the doctor in a couple of weeks and discuss the readings with her.

Mac2--In that case I would call back and ask again to hear the results. See if you get the same news. That's a little scary, but I guess that's how it goes sometimes. They are just oh so busy and move too fast at times. Be sure to get your own copies too when you see the doc. I don't know if you can but I always have to results faxed to me promptly OR if I am out of ink, LOL, I have then mailed to me.

A short story, really. On the lab requisition, at the top of the page there is usually a box to check by the doctor's office asking who else gets a CC of the lab results, (not giving any ideas here) my sister always puts a check and her fax number hand written. She always receives a copy at the same time as her doctor. She's bad.

Oh it would be nice if I could have them faxed to me but I always get the impression that I am being a nuisance when I ring the receptionists office. You can tell by their voice that if you probe further than them actually saying you have had a 'normal' result, they are getting exasperated.
