Dear ladies, do you know if an endometrial or hemorrhagic ovarian cyst can be the cause of anemia? I don't have heavy periods, so I'm sure my periods are not the cause for my iron to go low. I'm trying to find the reason for my ferritin level being slow to rise.
Hi peace4health - If your periods are normal then it's not your periods, but what is normal? Mine were always the same and it was only when i began taking the herbs from the naturopath that they lightened a lot. So what i felt was normal before was i guess actually a bit heavy.
I do know that things like fibroids can bleed internally. I don't know too much about cycts.
In your other thread you mentioned that you have only ever had an external ultrasound. My first one was like that and they missed stuff. Later on i have had 2 more ultrasounds, both comprising of internal, and they have picked up on other things missed first time around.
Back again ..... i was just looking at my lab results and they gave symptoms for various hormone excess/deficiency symptoms and PCOS is listed under testosterone excess. I also remember one of my friends having PCOS on one ovary and the nurse asking her whether she had a thyroid problem, saying often they are linked. My friend does have a thyroid problem, but only a minor one.
What have you done in the way of GI tract issues such as digestive and malabsorption, celiac and such? Sorry, I don't remember if you have been over this before. If your problem is not heavy bleeding due to hormones, internal things and thyroid then that is where you should be looking. Perhaps you are not able to absorb iron enough to keep up with what you are losing. I have an ovarian cyst and I don't think that they could possibly bleed enough to give you low numbers and anemia, I have never heard of it myself. I do know that they come and go. Mine has been hanging around for 9 yrs that I know of and it causes no problems, but that is only one 1 1/2 cm. Take care. FLFG
