iron supps..empty stomach

It says not to drink or eat any dairy 2 hours before and after taking iron. To take iron on en empty stomach with water either 2 hours after a meal or 1 hr before. I hate this cuz I am a big big milk drinker so not taking dairy for 4 hours is horrible. I get very light headed if I don't eat enough so waiting 2 hours after a meal to take my iron then waiting another 1 hour before I can eat again is killing me. Luckily I only have to take iron every other day instructed by my doctor. Does anyone have any suggestions???

Re: iron supps..empty stomach

Daises28--I say do the best that you can. You can't always comply and thats okay too. You will still absorb some. Sometimes people have to take their supplements with food and that decreases the absorption by 50%. No need to be fanatical just try the best when you can. The very best thing that you can do; is eat red meat and take vit c 500 at the same time, just as you would with your iron supplement. It increases the absorption something like 6 fold. Taking a B-12 complex also works well when you are anemic in rebuilding RBC's. Everything helps. Take care. FLFG
