Lulu21-- Welcome to the boards!

If you cannot absorb iron then you would get IV iron therapy from a Hematologist. This type of iron is used as a last resort because it is not without risk.

Intrinsic factor is a ~glycoprotein~ which is secreted by the ~parietal cells~ in the ~gastric mucosal cells~, lining if the stomach. This enables the B-12 to be absorbed by the intestines. Not being able to produce (IF) intrinsic factor results in pernicious anemia.

Iron replacement is used to treat simple iron deficiency anemia, however, it will not treat PA. You can take all the iron you want and it will not help, you would then need to have B-12 injections. Take care. FLFG
