Re: Iron Injections and pain

hi rosi1065 - The stains would be due to the doctor not following the correct procedure for the injections. I've had 5 injections and my doctor told me he prided himself on never leaving a "tattoo" on any of his patients. I wondered what he was on about and he printed me information on the injections and how to administer them correctly.

I never had pain until quite a while later. I think it was roughly one year later that i began getting a slight pain in the area where i got the injection. One of the guys at work who has also had these injections said his doctor told him he would feel a slight sensation in that area for life most likely. My pain i dont feel constantly but at off and on and sometimes when that area is touched.

Re: Iron Injections and pain

rosi1065--Welcome tot he boards!

Audrey is correct, the shots have to given in the correct manner. The iron tends to leak out into the skin and this is what causes the ~tattoo~that is semi permanent for some people. It is a well known fact that Im injections of iron can leave this on your bum. It can also last for years. The doctor's should warn people of this. I asked for IM iron and my doc said no IV only. There have been people here that have had this mark for up to 3 yrs. Pain is associated with IM injections too. Take care. FLFG
