| Iron IV Treatments
My daughter has been having iron IV treatments for the past 5 months. Her iron level was at 45 three months ago. Now it's back down to 2. We took her in for another iron IV treatment last Wed, and she ended up in the hospital on Fri to Sat. They tested her ferritin level in the hospital, and they told us her iron is now 1538!! The ER Dr told us that was off the scale high. We called her oncology Dr from her hospital room, and she insists that that is a normal reading for someone who just got an iron IV treatment. I don't know who to believe. The oncology Dr wanted her to get another IV this week, but we told her no. Not until we figure out what's going on.
Has anyone out there gotten one of these? If so, can you tell me what's "normal" for a reading afterwards?
She's losing iron so fast, I can see them wanting to give her a high dose... But 1538?! That does seem a bit high to me.
Any help you can offer would be appreciated.
