Lightbulb Need A Specialist!!

I have been diagnosed with Pernicous Anemia about 10 years ago. I have had on and off B12 injections. Most of my family doctors are hesitant to continue with the injections because at times my B12 serum is in normal range. I know that even if these numbers are normal that I still do suffer from the anemia.

I am now looking for a specialist/hematologist in BC Canada. Although i would travel across the country if I had to!!

Please write back! If you have had a good experience with a specialist or not! I'm desperate for a treatment/management plan.

Thank you so much

Re: Need A Specialist!!

Ok, so here's the deal. Once you start getting your B12 shots, your serum will be higher, but it doesn't mean you don't need the shots. All it means is that you've got it in your system. Plus, even if the serum is in normal range, it will only be that way for a few days, then it may drop drastically.

I don't have pernicious anemia, but I have another condition that causes low B12. Luckily my dr knows that once you start getting the shots, the serum blood test will show high. I get B12 shots every other week and I supplement with sublingual methycobalamin 3mg every day. Plus I take iron every day and a multi-vitamin.

I hate how stupid some drs are when it comes to B12. HATE IT. You should never be deprived of injections. Pernicious anemia is for life, and the shots must be too.
