Only prescribed iron for two months, but ferritin at 4?
hey! i have recently been diagnosed as anaemic, but my doctor doesnt seem too worried and has only prescribed me iron for 2 months, saying that after that i should just take a normal multivitamin... however, my ferritin levels are currently very low, and from research i have seen that it takes up to a year to restore iron levels?
here are my numbers, incase they mean more to you then they do to me!
Re: Only prescribed iron for two months, but ferritin at 4?
Hello,
I'm new to this forum but thought I would reassure you that when my ferritin was <5 I was prescribed only a few months worth. Then had to come off them to see if I could keep whatever was gained (think it was trying to see if it was an uptake or a loss problem).
Can I ask if you are symptomatic with your levels? As I have never had any - I don't think :-S xxx

i dont know if my doctor was just trying to cut on nhs costs... :/
my anemia is almost definitely due to being vegetarian for 19 years (my whole life) but more recently my hair has been thinning and i have migraines almost every time i stand up or walk up stairs... i can barely stay awake and im constantly exhausted!
im glad im not the only one prescribed it for only a few months though! because all my research (albeit internet based) has indicated that to restore severely depleted iron reserves takes from 6 months to a year!

I didn't even get a prescription for mine as it was £7.40 for a months worth - but my GP suggested the chemist at Tesco. They sell pots of 200 for about £6 x
