Re: H-Pylori & Anemia
I think I responded to an earlier post. I was severely anemic when I was diagnosed with h. pylori. It continued for several months after I was cured. The doctors kept running tests to see if something was wrong, but all tests showed up negative, except low B-12. I stayed anemic for several years, until I went through menopause and my periods stopped.
I went through a series of B-12 injections and I still get a B-12 injection once a month.
I did have a terrible time with the h. pylori and the drugs for it. I was short of breath and at times was gasping for air. I later found out anemia causes shortness of breath, but I'm sure the drugs didn't help matters. I was referred to a cardiologist for tests, but all they found was I have an extra heartbeat at times....no medication needed.
It probably took me a good six months before I felt good. I lost 40 pounds, and continued to have stomach pain.
I had lesions in my throat also, so I had to repeat the endoscopy every year for 3 years. They were watching for Barretts Esophagus. I'm down to one every three years now.
They don't know much about h. pylori and it's after effects. Do take the medications even if they make you feel crummy. So many people stop taking them and it's hard to get rid of.
Good luck, I'm sure you will have more questions....I sure did.
